Aldi is challenging shoppers to put their taste buds to the test with a supermarket first this Easter.

The supermarket is set to launch three limited-edition Village Bakery Mystery Hot Cross Buns, which will hit shelves between March 20 and April 6.

Aldi has announced a competition alongside the release of the mystery buns. Three lucky winners will each receive £1,000 in vouchers if they can correctly identify the secret flavours.

Each mystery flavour will be released on consecutive Thursdays, with distinctive packaging aiming to intrigue customers.

Mystery Flavour one will be available from March 20, followed by Mystery Flavour two from March 27.

Shoppers can purchase a pack of the Village Bakery Mystery Hot Cross Buns for 99p per two-pack.

After tasting and carefully considering the flavour, participants must submit their guess via email to [email protected].

Winners will be selected at random from all correct entries for each flavour variant.

Chief commercial officer at Aldi UK Julie Ashfield said: “We know how much our shoppers love hot cross buns, so we wanted to create something fun and exciting for them this Easter.

“Our buying team has created some truly unique flavours that will challenge even the most seasoned taste buds. We can’t wait to see if our shoppers can crack the mystery flavours.”

The supermarket has also suggested items for the perfect afternoon tea costing less than £2.50 per person, which could be perfect for Mother’s Day.

The budget-friendly spread includes buttery scones, thick clotted cream and sweet cakes, with prices starting from just 39p. It comes as new desserts will launch tomorrow.
