BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay has candidly shared insights into his recent career venture, confessing to making some “terrible mistakes”.
Jon took the helm of Tuesday’s (11 March) BBC Breakfast with co-host Sally Nugent by his side. The duo also welcomed sports presenter John Watson for a segment during the show.
The broadcast revealed that Jon and Sally had participated in a special episode of BBC’s Bargain Hunt, commemorating the programme’s 25th anniversary. Viewers were treated to a snippet featuring the presenting pair, highlighting their haggling prowess and knack for identifying valuable items.
John hosted the episode and was accompanied by Bargain Hunt regular Tim Weeks, who lent his expertise to Jon and Sally as they scoured for collectibles and unique finds.

Jon opted for a Dinky Toy car tagged at £129 and a tea caddy set priced at £40. On the other hand, Sally took a more conservative approach to spending, choosing a coffee grinder for £19 and a sizeable teapot from the Queen’s Golden Jubilee for a mere £5, reports the Express.
Tim praised Sally’s selections, particularly her teapot, which he called a “really good buy” after she disclosed her successful negotiation for a lower price.
Regarding Jon and Sally’s strategies, Tim remarked: “Well, very different approaches, I would say. Jon’s left it all out on the table. He’s gone big, I like his style. He obviously watches Bargain Hunt because he asked to get that extra pound off. He has got a good game plan there. Sally, though, is in it to win it! I really think there’s a golden gavel coming that way.”
Returning to BBC Breakfast, Jon and Sally shared their thoughts on their recent Bargain Hunt experience, with Jon expressing some regret over his strategy.
“We’re going to auction it later today. I think I’ve made some terrible mistakes,” he confessed to his colleagues.

Sally highlighted Jon’s competitive nature, saying: “I think you were really competitive and took it really seriously. I thought we were just going to have fun and a lovely day out. You want to win, clearly!”.
As Jon acknowledged his competitive streak, Sally continued: “I just giggled all day. I clearly just didn’t take it seriously enough. Also, I was very frugal. You blew the budget, I was very careful. I was being cautious with other people’s money.”
Jon responded with a light-hearted jab: “Oh, Sally! Don’t emotionally blackmail me!” leading to laughter between them.
The presenters announced that their Bargain Hunt items would go under the hammer on Tuesday, with the episode set to be broadcast on Wednesday’s (12 March) edition of BBC Breakfast.
