Family members of victims lost to terror attacks gathered at an event for European Day for Victims of Terrorism. Hosted by TUV MLA Timothy Gaston in the chamber in Parliament Buildings and co-sponsored by UUP MLA Mike Nesbitt and SDLP MLA Patsy McGlone.
Today’s event heard personal stories from four people who have lost family members, Caroline D’Eath who publicly spoke for the first time about the loss of her father Gerlad D’Eath,who was murdered by a UVF bomb in 1975, Pamela Wilson, her father David Dorsett, was murdered by the Provisional IRA in 1973 and David McCaughey, cousin of Dougald McCaughey who was murdered by the Provisional IRA along John and Josephy McCaig in 1971.
Colette Murray appeared via a video, to share her story of her brother Cyril, who was shot dead by Loyalist terrorists in 1992. Representatives from the majority of the Assembly’s elected parties also attended the event that has been an annual occasion in Europe since the Madrid bombings of 2004.
