A person who was seen on CCTV footage entering the Cumberland Basin, sparking a major search effort, has not been found. Police launched a large-scale search effort to locate the individual who entered the water.

Almost a week after having been seen entering the water, the unidentified person still has not been found. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police have told BristolLive that enquiries into the incident continue.

A person was spotted entering the the water at Cumberland Basin, Hotwells, on Tuesday, March 4. A major search effort was launched and a police cordon was put in place. Police officers, including horses and a drone unit were at the scene on Wednesday, March 5.

The Cumberland Basin was drained during the operation. Underwater search teams attended too with a water stretcher.

At the time, Avon and Somerset Police said: “Officers are at Cumberland Basin, in Hotwells, Bristol, this afternoon (Wednesday 5 March) after concerns were raised for the welfare of a person.

“The police Underwater Search Team, specialist search officers, detectives from our Investigations Department, and the mounted and drone unit, supported by the fire service and the harbourmaster, are in the area conducting water searches after a lone person was captured on CCTV entering the water yesterday (Tuesday 4 March).”
