Emergency crews are evacuating the Golden Eagle Express gondola following an incident at the base terminal around 9:20 a.m. Monday, the resort said in a statement posted to its website.
Social media posts indicate the cabin was carrying several passengers when the incident occurred. A video posted to Facebook shows the unit lying on its side, two or three metres below the track.
No injuries were reported.
Kicking Horse says its patrol team and first responders quickly responded to the scene.
“Our trained maintenance team is evacuating the passengers as per standard operating procedure,” the resort said. “A full inspection has been initiated to determinate and analyze root causes.
The Golden Eagle Express gondola will remain closed until further notice, the resort said.
The incident comes after a major dump of snow in the area, with Kicking Horse receiving 23 centimetres of snowfall since Sunday.
Images and video of the incident have been posted on Facebook.
In 2016, 75 people were evacuated from the gondola after a power failure disabled the lift. The evacuation took several hours, starting around 3 p.m. and ending by 9 p.m.
