Iconic Montpelier pub The Pipe & Slippers has unveiled its line-up of food pop-ups coming to its new kitchen over the next month. In a post to Instagram, the pub shared some images of some of the food that will be on offer, as well as a calendar of pop-up dates all the way through March and April.

The new kitchen opened yesterday (March 8). The post said: “You may have spotted that we have been teasing news of our new kitchen over the past month or so, and now it is time to reveal we have a great run of amazing pop-up kitchens starting from this Saturday! Yes, that is kitchens plural…

“We are very excited to bring in both new and familiar chefs to the pub, all specialising in culinary delights from the far-reaching corners of the world and offering something that we feel is a bit different to your usual pub grub affair in the area (and in general really).”

First on the line-up will be Slaps, who are said to “bring the bold and spicy flavours of Durban street food from South Africa to Bristol, with their signature dish being a ‘Bunny Chow’ – hollowed-out loaf of fresh white bread generously filled with your choice of fragrant, slow-cooked curry. Also think dal, roti, chutneys and SA-style fries”.

After Yak Shack, a father-and-son team, will be bringing authentic Nepalese street food to the Cheltenham Road venue. The post says: “Chef Shyam’s upbringing in Nepal and decades of cooking around Asia and the UK have influenced his love of bright flavours and hearty, nourishing ingredients. They will be serving a range of curries, chilli chicken, momo’s, wraps, kale pakora and more.”

And then finally Jikoni will return with its showcase of food from East African cultures, with traditional and inspired by dishes from Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia & Eritrea. Kuku Paka.

The dates of each pop-up are as follows:

  • Slaps: March 8 – 22
  • Yak Shak: March 25- April 5
  • Jikoni: April 8 onwards
  • The Pipe & Slippers team added: “We can’t express enough how you don’t want to miss out on any of these, and each will only be joining us for a limited time so make sure you come down and try them – preferably early as we are sure you won’t just want it once! Keep an eye out for each of their individual menus to be launched soon…”

This latest update comes just months after BristolLive reported that the popular pub had called on iconic Bristol street artist, Inkie, to update its pub sign – one of several updates the pub are putting in place as part of a ‘regeneration’.
