Royal commentator Charles Rae has praised King Charles’s Commonwealth Day message as a powerful diplomatic statement amid growing international tensions.
Speaking to GB News, Rae pointed out the significance of the King’s call for unity in “uncertain times” as nations face global challenges.
The commentator suggested the King is “sending a strong message” with his attendance after Trump revealed he has ambitions to turn Canada into the 51st state of the USA.
King Charles will deliver his annual Commonwealth Day message on Monday, calling for unity in what he describes as “these uncertain times” of international tension.

“I think we have to be very, very careful about this, because Trump is doing exactly what Putin is doing with Ukraine, except he hasn’t yet launched any armed insurrection in Canada to force them to do that.
“So that’s something the world has got to keep an eye on. You’re right as well that there are all these sorts of problems. We’ve got Trump due to come over here, although I suspect that will be put on the back burner while the talks with Ukraine and Russia go on.
“We’ll just have to wait and see. But the day itself is important because, you know, the king obviously missed it last year.
“He did a video message, so he’s back in action again today, as is the Princess of Wales with other members of the Royal Family.
“It’s a good message they’re putting out: that together we thrive. And Trump really needs to understand that we are together.
“We have 56 nations that are united. Canada joined the Commonwealth in 1931, three years after the Commonwealth was set up.
Trump has made many calls for Canada to become America’s 51st state in recent months, including a claim that without a massive subsidy from the US “Canada ceases to exist as a viable country”.
The King, who is Canada’s head of state, recently held private talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following Trump’s controversial remarks.

The traditional Commonwealth Day service will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The service will showcase the multicultural diversity of the Commonwealth, with royal guests being greeted by a pipe band from a Hindu eco-temple in north-west London.
