This year’s Eurovision UK act, Remember Monday, has clapped back at detractors who have expressed negativity about their participation in the renowned song contest.
The girl band, consisting of Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull, and Charlotte Steel, is set to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland in May 2025 with their track “What The Hell Just Happened?” They confirmed their participation in the show on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
Despite facing a barrage of critical comments online, the trio has responded with resilience, transforming the backlash into a humorous song. Remember Monday uploaded a video on social media where they harmonise while singing some of the disparaging remarks they’ve received, such as “Please tell me it’s not true you’re doing Eurovision for UK”, “yep we’re getting 0 points again…” and “Are you going to Eurovision or not? I want to get the disappointment out of the way.”
This creative clap-back was shared on BBC Eurovision’s TikTok account, captioned: “From trash talk to treasure. The #Eurovision rumour mill recently hit full peak for @RememberMonday_, but for this year’s UK Eurovision it’s just an opportunity to harmonise and turn some of their favourite comments into choooons!”.
While the response from music enthusiasts remains mixed, with some still sceptical, others have shown their support, with one person commenting: “From trash talk to bangers! This track is fire!” and another calling it “iconic behaviour”.
In response to the news that they will be representing the UK in this year’s Eurovision, Remember Monday exclaimed: “What The Hell Just Happened is exactly how we’re feeling right now! It’s all very surreal; our friendship goes so far back, and we definitely never imagined that we’d be doing anything like this.”
They added: “When you’re a kid and people ask you what you want to be when you grow up, an absolute classic is “I wanna be a pop star”, so the fact that we’re getting the chance to live that dream as three best friends is just wild.” The band also shared their excitement about being the first girlband to represent the UK since 1999, saying: “We’re going to be the first girlband to represent the UK since 1999, which feels like such a crazy honour.
“We’re going to bring loads of fun, energy and hopefully do something that you won’t have seen before on the Eurovision stage.” The trio, who became friends after meeting in sixth form, are hoping to outperform last year’s UK Eurovision act, Olly Alexander, who came 18th.
They first gained recognition after appearing on The Voice UK in 2019 where they reached the knockout rounds under the guidance of Jennifer Hudson. Since then, the girl band has appeared on the Jennifer Hudson show and caught the attention of BBC Radio 2 Breakfast host Scott Mills when their music was played on the station last year.
They describe their sound as a “blend of modern and classic country, with a touch of pop and rock.” The trio has graced the stage at several significant UK events, including Country to Country and the Long Road, and even embarked on their own UK tour following a sold-out headline show in London. Remember Monday has amassed an impressive 91,800 followers on Instagram and a whopping 538,000 on TikTok.
