Max O’Leary – 6

The Bristol City number one couldn’t do anything for the opening goal and then had very little to do for the remainder of the game. On the rare occasion he was called into action, he did what was required of him with little fanfare.

Zak Vyner – 6

City’s first goalscorer against Millwall on Tuesday evening appeared to get caught out for Hull’s opener. Vyner stuck a leg out to try and block the initial pass, but his effort was half-hearted and came up short. Physically dealt with the challenge that the rest of the game posed but in truth, he and the rest of the backline didn’t have an awful lot to do.

Rob Dickie – 5.5

Having been so impressive in the absence of Luke McNally in recent weeks, Dickie ended up in knots for Hull’s opener. Joao Pedro found him too easy to spin before leaving before leaving him head down on the turf. Did what he had to for the remainder of the game but will be frustrated.

George Tanner (off for Sam Bell, 60′) – 6

The former Manchester United prospect provided a really solid presence on the right of defence while also venturing forward to aid Mark Sykes in possession wherever possible. Perhaps his final ball could have been better but he was likely only withdrawn because of the need for a greater attacking threat.

Cam Pring (off for Haydon Roberts, 60′) – 6

Alongside both Dickie and Vyner, Pring seemed to get caught out slightly for Hull’s opening goal. After that, however, he offered an outlet on the left flank before being replaced at the hour mark. Given his recent injury, the Robins have to manage his workload carefully to avoid losing him again.

Max Bird – 6

Bird was afforded plenty of the ball given Hull’s low block and produced some excellent moments on the ball. However, it felt as though whenever he got into some areas where he could do some damage, he instead passed to someone else. Liam Manning wants him to add more goals to his game and he will be some player if he can.

Jason Knight – 6.5

The Ireland international is always the Robins’ engine but that was only more clear against the 10-man Tigers. He ran the game both in and out of possession with some impressive tackles and smart passes. Did everything he could to try and help the home side find a winner but unfortunately came up just short.

Mark Sykes (off for George Earthy, 70′) – 7

Bristol City’s best outlet following the red card early in the second half. Posed a constant threat down the right wing, standing up countless crosses to the back post that the away side couldn’t deal with. He just needed someone in the middle to provide the finishing touch. Faded slightly in the second half but another really good display.

Anis Mehmeti (off for Yu Hirakawa, 70′) – 7

Restored to the starting line-up in place of George Earthy, the Albanian international saw plenty of the ball in the opening 45 minutes without managing to test Ivor Pandur or carve out a chance for a teammate but took his chance after the break. Great penalty under immense pressure.

Scott Twine – 6.5

Against his former side, Twine was a constant nuisance. He picked the ball up in some excellent areas and kept things ticking against an incredibly low block. His finishing needed to be better as he spurned a few half-chances including a really poor free-kick late on.

Sinclair Armstrong (off for Harry Cornick, 79′) – 6

The Ireland youth international couldn’t have come much closer to opening his account for 2025 when he twice headed over from close range in the first half. Did well to earn the header from which Mehmeti levelled, even if it did look a little soft in real-time. His goal will come sooner rather than later.

Substitutes:

Haydon Roberts – 5.5

A few shaky touches put the Robins under some unnecessary pressure by their own box and he wasn’t quite able to showcase the quality needed in the final third.

Sam Bell – 5

Spurned arguably the Robins’ best chance in stoppage time. Struggled to get to grips with the game on the left flank after being introduced.

Yu Hirakawa – 6

Added some energy.

George Earthy – 6

Harry Cornick – N/A
