Police in York Region have issued a public warning after a violent daytime home invasion in Aurora on Thursday morning.

York Regional Police were called at 11:20 a.m. to a home in the Murray Dr.-Kennedy St. Area for a home invasion.

Police said a female victim reported answering the front door after someone knocked aggressively. As the door opened, cops said a man forced his way into the residence and tried to restrain her.

A second victim, who was in the home, tried to intervene and was allegedly violently assaulted.

Police said the man fled the residence in an unknown direction on foot without making any demands for valuables or stealing anything.

Both victims suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a white man, 20-30 years old, about six feet tall and 175-180 pounds. He was wearing a black balaclava with two eyeholes and a separate mouth hole, a midweight black putty coat, black pants and black boot-like footwear.

“York Regional Police would like to warn the community to always know who is at your door before opening it,” Const. Kevin Nebrija said. “This can be done from a window where the person would not be able to see you, for example, a second floor or living room window. If able, use security cameras or peepholes to verify who is at the door before opening it.”

He added: “If you feel unsafe, trust your instincts and call 911 right away.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or at 1800222tips.com.
