Sir Rod Stewart is known for his music – but it turns out his dining choices are pretty interesting, too. His eating habits were shared by his spouse, Penny Lancaster, when she made an appearance on BBC Celebrity MasterChef in 2021.
Penny revealed that Rod indulges in sumptuous three-course meals every evening, complete with candles – a ritual dating back to their early days together. “When I first met Rod about 20 years ago he had a chef, so there wasn’t much need for me in the kitchen, thank God,” said Penny, best known for her role on Loose Women, according to The Scottish Sun.
“Rod kind of likes the fine dining every evening, three-course dinners, candles, and it’s kind of out of my league, so I do the kids’ cooking but otherwise, not really au fait.”

Eating such lavish meals daily might seem overindulgent, yet nutritionist Helen Bell from Help and Advice pointed out that it could have its positives, though it’s not entirely straightforward. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Helen explained: “I’d say that the healthiness of a three-course meal really depends on the choices made for each course.
“I’ve seen people enjoy a starter of a light salad, a main course with lean protein, and a dessert like fresh fruit, which can be quite balanced. However, if each course is rich and heavy, it might not be the healthiest option on a regular basis,” reports the Mirror.
The nutritionist broke down the complex issue of meal courses and their impact on health. She said: “It’s not a black-and-white issue because the overall nutritional content of the meal matters more than the number of courses.”
She revealed factors such as portion control, dietary needs, ingredient selection and cooking techniques play key roles in determining how healthy these meals are. Grilled and steamed dishes, as we know, are far healthier than fried ones.

The expert even claimed that weight loss is possible while eating daily three courses too, but these should be planned thoughtfully, said Helen, adding that carefully designed meals can contribute to weight loss. She said: “Weight loss is possible while enjoying three-course dinners, provided the meals are thoughtfully planned. I’ve seen success when people focus on calorie control and nutrient density.
“For example, opting for broth-based soups, lean proteins and fruit-based desserts can keep the calorie count in check. Planning and preparation are vital to maintaining a healthy diet while enjoying gourmet meals.”
Helen even touched on making dishes tasty while keeping them wholesome, saying: “I’d also suggest experimenting with different herbs and spices to add flavour without extra calories. This can make meals exciting without compromising health.”
Now, Sir Rod Stewart has been confirmed for the coveted ‘Legends’ slot at next year’s Glastonbury Festival. The 79-year-old’s performance will mark his first at the Somerset farm since 2002, in which he headlined the famous Pyramid Stage.
In an statement, he said: “I’m proud, ready and more than able to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury in June.” Glastonbury’s spokespeople also added: “We’re excited to announce that Sir Rod Stewart will play the Sunday teatime legend slot at Glastonbury 2025.”
