BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty faced an amusing moment in the latest episode. After a report from Australia about severe weather, they shifted to weather presenter Sarah Keith-Lucas for the UK forecast.

Naga, relieved by the milder UK weather, remarked: “Thankfully, nothing quite as traumatic here.”

A sun-drenched image featuring palm tree silhouettes prompted Naga’s surprise as she commented: “Wow! What a contrast, Sarah.”

Asking if the image represented Thursday’s weather given the grey skies at their Salford studio, Sarah clarified: “It’s not this morning in Salford, but it is this morning! It looks like this in some parts of the country.”

Naga, astonished, asked: “Really?! We have palm trees here?!” Sarah confirmed that indeed we do, sharing that the photo was from Essex, reports the Express.

Post-forecast, Naga felt the need to apologise for any giggles heard during Sarah’s segment.

She said: “I apologise if you heard some sniggering during your forecast. Someone (Charlie) was laughing at me for not knowing that we have numerous, thousands, of palm trees here in the UK. I didn’t know!”

Sarah added “Yeah there we go, you have to go and visit some palm tree places I think.” Naga thanked her, voicing her intention to broaden her horizons regarding Britain’s exotic flora.

Charlie Stayt couldn’t resist the opportunity to tease Naga on air, encouraging viewers with a playful comment. He said: “If you’ve seen a palm tree, send us a picture. Extraordinary, extraordinary thing.”

Naga was quick to play along, urging the audience to share their photos before catching Charlie’s mischievous smile, realising his jest.

As she gave him a pointed look, Charlie laughed and deftly transitioned to their next discussion point.

Notably, viewers engaged with Naga’s remarks, with one stating: “We have palm trees in the garden naga [sic]”

Meanwhile, another shared their own proof, tweeting pictures with the caption: “Palm trees in the north west Scotland village of Plockton taken on 19 January in 9 degree sunshine.”

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
