“I am Canadian” is now “We are Canadian.”
And not a moment too soon.
As a patriotic wave hits Canada during the tariffs war with the U.S., Joe Canada (played by Nova Scotia actor Jeff Douglas), whose famous “I Am Canadian” rant was immortalized 25 years ago in a popular Molson Canadian beer ad, is back with a new updated version of the video called “We are Canadian” that emerged Wednesday on YouTube.
“They mistake our modesty for meekness, our kindness for consent, our nation for another star on their flag,” he says into the microphone after showing photos of U.S. President Donald Trump.
“And our love of a hot, cheesy poutine with their love of a hot, cheesy Putin (pointing to a shirtless Putin on horseback).”
The video had more than 350,000 views on YouTube after only being up for 24 hours.
“Are we perfect? No,” yells Douglas in the new version while the screen shows a Mohawk land defender face to face with a Canadian soldier during the 1990 Oka Crisis.
“But we are not the 51st anything.”
Even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau weighed in on the new video on his social media account.
“Good to have you back,” he wrote on @JustinTrudeau on X.
