Portadown College are the Belfast Telegraph Schoolgirls’ Senior Cup champions after they beat Royal School Armagh in a dramatic Final at Stormont PlayBall on Wednesday night.
The two sides finished level after 60 minutes of action as Joni Cunningham’s penalty corner goal early in the third quarter was cancelled out by Rebekah Lennon’s response right on the hooter at the end of the same quarter.
A green card to Portadown early in the fourth quarter gave Armagh the initiative and they had a chance to win it right at the death as Katie Herron won a penalty stroke but Cunningham fired it wide.
And it would be Portadown who would finally triumph over their old rivals in a Final as Evie Thompson and Leah Galbraith both held their nerve in the run-ins to score, with Makayla Stevenson unbeatable in all four she faced to lift the trophy.
