A 37-year-old man is accused of pointing a firearm at someone in Whitby on Tuesday afternoon.
Durham Regional Police say officers responded to an armed person call in the area of Dundas St. W. and Frances St. — east of Cochrane St. — around 2:40 p.m.
“It was reported that (a man) pointed a firearm at the victim and threatened to shoot them,” police said in a statement released Wednesday, adding the gun-toting man fled the area before officers arrived at the scene.
However, police said officers were subsequently able to locate a suspect and arrested him “without incident.”
Marten Woods, 37, of no fixed address, is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, pointing a firearm and breaching his probation.
He was held for a bail hearing.
“The firearm involved is believed to be a replica,” police said.
Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to call police at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2448, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
