Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid delivered a key update regarding the Ukrainian conflict at the start of Wednesday’s programme.

Shortly after opening the show, she announced: “Good Morning Britain, breaking news, Donald Trump announces Ukraine is on the brink of signing a mineral and security deal and that they and Russia are ready for peace.”

Later during the broadcast, footage was aired showcasing U.S President Donald Trump stating: “Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible.

“We’ve had serious discussions with Russia and have received strong signals that they are ready for peace. Wouldn’t that be beautiful?”

The update follows President Trump’s decision to halt military aid to Ukraine earlier in the week. Susanna informed her audience that President Trump had communicated with U.S Congress, revealing he had obtained a letter from Volodymyr Zelenskyy within the past few hours.

Live from Washington, GMB’s North American correspondent Noel Phillips was asked by Ed if it seemed that President Trump achieved his aims with President Zelenskyy, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Noel responded: “As we all know Susanna and Ed, Donald Trump is a man who does not like to lose a fight.

“According to an advisor who I spoke to a short time ago, the president was apparently patiently waiting for Zelenskyy to back down and he has done so in the form of that private letter sent to the White House overnight.”

The correspondent explained: “In which, he did not say the word sorry or apologise, but he did hint that he’s willing to get on a plane and travel back to the US to sign that minerals deal, that is what Donald Trump so desperately wants.”

He told ITV viewers the development may unfold within hours or days, adding: “This letter was a way of calming tensions between the two men.

“I guess we wait now to see if this letter will be enough for Donald Trump to now give Zelenskyy what he wants in return.”
