This Hockey Inside/Out bonus episode answers a question sent in by Gazette reader Lorne Freeman, who wonders if the Canadiens will ever retire No. 22 in honour of Hall of Famer Steve Shutt.
The Gazette’s Stu Cowan and Jack Todd are joined by former Canadiens defenceman and 1986 Stanley Cup champion Rick Green, who played with Shutt, to discuss if No. 22 should be raised to the rafters at the Bell Centre.
Shutt ranks fifth on the Canadiens’ all-time goals list with 408. The four players ahead of him on that list — Maurice Richard (544 goals), Guy Lafleur (518), Jean Béliveau (507) and Yvan Cournoyer (428) — have all had their numbers retired. Bernie Geoffrion, who ranks sixth on the list with 371 goals (37 fewer than Shutt) also had his number retired.
