Fresh off successfully defending his “belt” as Ontario’s political heavyweight champ, Doug Ford found himself celebrating another victory of sorts on Friday night.

Inside a wrestling ring.

Premier Ford was presented a ceremonial belt inside Rogers Centre from none other than WWE executive and former wrestling superstar Triple H.

The outfit’s chief content officer gave Ford the belt with the wrestling outfit in town this weekend for the Elimination Chamber event, one of WWE’s signature events in the lead-up to WrestleMania.

“I was honoured to attend the kick-off of the @WWE Elimination Chamber, a pivotal stop on the road to Wrestlemania,” Ford said in a post on X on Friday night. “Thank you @TripleH for the ceremonial belt — and thank you for bringing your world-class event to Toronto.”

With the ceremonial belt draped over him, Ford posed for photos inside the ring with Triple H, whose real name is Paul Levesque, and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

Of course, Ford is fresh off laying a political smackdown against his opponents. After calling a snap election to trigger a rare winter election in the province, Ford easily secured his third consecutive majority government. In fact, he was declared the winner soon after the polls closed on Thursday night. The PCs ultimately won 80 seats, followed by the NDP led by official Opposition Leader Marit Stiles with 27 and the Liberals with 14 to squeak in with official party status. Liberal Party Leader Bonnie Crombie failed to win her Mississauga-East Cooksville riding.

WWE is in Toronto for Friday Night SmackDown, followed by The Elimination Chamber on Saturday night.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and John Cena are among the biggest names on hand, while Canadian wrestling superstar Trish Stratus will also be a fan favourite.

This marks WWE’s first event at Rogers Centre since WrestleMania 18 back in 2002.
