King Charles announced he has adopted a new dog just days after Queen Camilla revealed that she also adopted a puppy named Moley.

The Spaniel is the King’s first dog in more than 20 years, and the monarch is said to be besotted with his new pet.

The newest member of the Palace, a lagotto romagnolo called Snuff, was a surprise gift to Charles just four weeks ago.

Snuff’s is a truffle-hunting breed historically from the Ravenna region in northern Italy.

Italy has an upcoming significance for the monarch as he and his wife are set to travel there for an international visit in April.

Charles and Camilla’s diplomatic journey will include official engagements in Vatican City and the Italian Republic.

The royals plan to meet with His Holiness Pope Francis during their visit to the Holy See to celebrate the 2025 Jubilee Year.

The gift has no link to the state visit according to Buckingham Palace.

King Charles’s last dog, Tigga, died in 2002 at the age of 18.

An insider told The Sun: “Charles is besotted with his puppy.

“He hasn’t had one since Tigga. The breed is a truffle-hunter.

“Charles enjoys mushroom foraging, so they have a lot in common.”

The Lagotto Romagnolo is a Spaniel Minority Breed, according to the UK Kennel Club.

The breed bears little resemblance to King Charles Spaniels, kept by Charles I and Charles II.

Speaking about her new puppy, Camilla said: “I’ve just got a new puppy, he’s eight weeks old. It’s a rescue dog called Moley. It looks just like a mole.”

Her new dog follows the death of Beth, the Queen’s late Jack Russel, who died in November last year.
