A lifeboat team rescued four people today from a stranded boat on Lough Erne.
Carrybridge RNLI attended the incident involving a boat sailing on the Co Fermanagh lake. The passengers flagged down the rescue team at approximately 3.25pm this afternoon.
The volunteer crew diverted from their training exercise and assessed the four passengers on board finding them in good health and wearing lifejackets.
After checking the boat for damage the rescue team concluded that its engine was unable to start.
Crew members towed the three-metre vessel to a public jetty at the Killyhevlin hotel.
Speaking following the call out, Chris Cathcart, Volunteer Helm at Carrybridge RNLI urged people to take care on the water.
‘‘As the boating season commences on Lough Erne in the coming weeks we would ask all water users before setting out on your journey to carry out regular maintenance checks on your vessel,” he said.
“Make sure you have the relevant charts required before starting your journey, lifejackets for all on board and a means of calling for assistance if you find yourself in trouble.
“If you see someone or something in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself the number to dial is 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.’’
