B&M is offering a functional piece of luggage that is perfect for withstanding the stress of airport travel while avoiding additional airline fees. However, shoppers need to make one simple check to ensure they won’t get stung by an unexpected bill at the airport.

The Hard Shell Cabin Case is available online in sleek black and grey colour options and costs just £25. The compact size case, ideal for short trips lasting a couple of days, is also available in a soft blue or pink colour as well but these aren’t shown on B&M’s website.

It promises to keep belongings secure, stating: “This cabin-sized suitcase will strap your belongings in tight and protect them with the hard shell while travelling.” Standing approximately 45cm tall, 36cm wide, and 20cm deep, the case meets size requirements for several major airlines popular with British holidaymakers, including Easyjet.

A Facebook user who spotted the deal in store shared a picture with the claim on the pakcaging itself. In-store labels on the cases read “Suitable for Easyjet”.

The cases saw plenty leave positive comments, with one expressing a preference for carry-on luggage to save money. They said: “I always try to pack as much as possible in a carry on. Why spend extra on hold luggage when you could use that money for something more enjoyable?”

Another fan added: “I love these. Practical and stylish too!” Someone else boasted: “Fit a week’s worth of summer clothes in this – just! Easyjet accepted it no problem when I flew last summer. So simple and saved a little money too!”

A fourth shared: “I flew with Easyjet last week and had no problems with this case. It was great!”.

Travellers were warned not to get overly excited if planning on flying with Ryanair, as this is one of the few airlines that won’t accept the bag without a charge. The airline’s own rules state that the permitted free carry-on size is limited to 40x20x25cm, which means some luggage would be too large and could lead to an additional fee starting from £23.99.

One person advised: “Don’t get caught out! This is too big for Ryanair!” Another cautioned: “Be careful if flying Ryanair. They won’t accept these as under seat!”

To avoid any issues when you’re at the airport, always make sure to check the baggage guidelines of the airline you are flying with. It’s sensible to choose luggage with dimensions a little under the maximum allowable size to provide that much-needed ‘wiggle room’, should you be asked to prove your bag fits.

Some bags might measure a little over what is advertised, but this can sometimes be fixed easily at the wheels. Some suitcase models manage to shave a few centimetres off by having these convenient wheels detach.

Availability of the cases might vary by location, so it’s a good idea to check stock levels at your nearest B&M stores. Find out which shops are closest to your home by using the online store finder tool.
