The body of a young man who went missing at the Giant’s Causeway several months ago has been found, police have confirmed.
Lester McLennan was reported missing on November 2 of last year after taking a solo trip up to the Giant’s Causeway a day earlier.
A multi-agency search ensued for Mr McLennan involving the coastguard, dog units and community rescue service.
The 20-year-old, who had travelled to Northern Ireland for a family visit, was last seen in the Dunseverick Castle area of the popular tourists destination.
During a pre-inquest review into case of Mr McLennan on February 20, coroner Joe McCrisken found that it seemed likely his body had entered the water around the Giants Causeway and that his “body cannot be recovered.”
However police have now confirmed that following a post-mortem examination, a body found in the Bushmills area last weekend, has been confirmed as that of Mr McLennan.
A spokesperson from the PSNI said: “Following a post-mortem examination, the Police Service of Northern Ireland can confirm that a body recovered from the Causeway Road area of Bushmills on Sunday, 23rd February is that of 20-year-old Lester McLennan.
“Mr McLennan was reported as missing to police on Saturday, 2nd November 2024.
“The Police Service, on behalf of Lester’s family, would like to thank partner agencies and the public for all of their assistance throughout this difficult time with searches and enquiries.
“Our thoughts are with Lester’s family at this time, and we express our heartfelt condolences to them.”
