The Foreign Office has listed a number of destinations that people from the UK should not travel to. Among other things, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) shared information about the entry requirements, safety and security, health risks and legal differences of some 226 nations and territories around the world.
At present, there are a number of countries (FCDO) advises against travelling to full stop, as well as places where they say you should avoid certain areas.
So where can you travel to and where should you not? Here is a full list to consider before booking your next flight – and remember if you travel against this advice, your insurance may be void.
FCDO warns: “Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.”
Where does the FCDO advise against travel to?
- Afghanistan: You should not travel to Afghanistan. The security situation is volatile. Travel throughout Afghanistan is extremely dangerous and border crossings may not be open.
- Belarus: FCDO advises against all travel to Belarus. You face a significant risk of arrest if you have at any time engaged in any activity now considered illegal by the Belarusian regime.
- Algeria: All travel to within 30km of Algeria’s borders with Libya, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Tunisia

Burkina Faso: FCDO advises against all travel to Burkina Faso, except to the capital, Ouagadougou. FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Ouagadougou, up to the toll booths on all roads out of the city. This is due to the threat of terrorist attacks and terrorist kidnap, and the unstable political situation in the country.

Angola: Cabinda Province, except Cabinda city as well as Border areas in Lunda Norte Province

Armenia: FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Armenia. They explain: “The border with Azerbaijan remains closed. FCDO advises against all travel to within 5km of the entire eastern border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, due to tensions between the 2 countries.” They add that they also advise “against all travel along the M16/H26 road between the towns of Ijevan and Noyemberyan, due to border tensions.”

Azerbaijan: FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Azerbaijan. This includes the Azerbaijan-Armenia border as well as Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas

Benin: FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Benin including the Northern border regions

Burundi: FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Burundi. This includes Cibitoke and Bubanza provinces, Kayanza Province, Bujumbura Rural Province, Melchior Ndadaye International Airport to Cibitoke and Rusizi National Park

Cameroon: FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Cameroon. This includes Bakassi Peninsula, Cameroon-Central African Republic border, Limbé, Cameroon-Nigeria border, Cameroon-Chad border, Far-North Region, North-West Region, South-West Region as well as North Region, Adamawa Region and Maroua

Central African Republic: FCDO advises against all travel to the whole of the Central African Republic, including the areas of Bimbo, Begoua and Coline, except to the capital, Bangui.
