Rod Stewart’s son Sean has revealed he is currently in rehab to address childhood issues and ADHD, rather than for substance abuse problems as previously reported.
The 44-year-old, who is the third of Rod’s eight children, opened up about his treatment after his famous family reportedly staged an intervention.
Sean told The Mirror that he is seeking help for the “pain” he experienced in childhood stemming from his ADHD and dyslexia and described how some people called him “Stupid Stewart”.
However, conflicting reports from Daily Mail suggest Sean is actually in rehab for addiction issues, with an insider claiming: “Sean is in rehab for addiction.
“He’s had a long history of substance abuse, and he decided to get help when he saw that he was falling off the deep end again.”
The 43-year-old songwriter is reportedly staying at the $80,000-a-month Cliffside Malibu rehabilitation facility.

It was also reported that his rehab stint and addiction were made worse after his divorce from Jody Weintraub last year after their whirlwind marriage.
“I would go to parties at that age and drink and smoke cannabis and cigarettes,” he previously told the Mail. “It was very easy for me to get drugs.”
He revealed his drug use escalated from ecstasy to prescription pills like Vicodin, then cocaine, and finally heroin before admitting: “I would just walk into a party and someone would hand them to me.”
The reality TV star explained how his struggles began at high school in California, where access to substances was readily available.

Sean has been candid about the challenges of growing up as the son of a rock star and previously told the same publication: “Being Rod Stewart’s son is a curse and a hindrance.”
He believes all celebrity children face similar struggles, coining it the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Royalty Curse” and added: “We were able to get into any Hollywood club we wanted to from an early age, and a lot of people wanted to be our friends just because of who our parents are.
“Other people want to live this life, but they don’t know all of it. It’s tough growing up when your dad’s one of the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll stars.”
Despite Sean’s troubles, his father Rod has remained supportive throughout his struggles, with a source claiming to The Mirror: “Rod is proud of him for getting help.”
The rock star has previously expressed pride in all his children despite their challenges.
“I’m very lenient with them. None have gotten into any serious trouble. A couple dabbled with drugs, but that’s all done now. I’m very proud of them all,” Stewart told Haute Living.

He added: “I don’t think I’m as strict with my kids as my mom and dad especially my dad were.”
Sean is expected to complete a 90-day stay at the Cliffside Malibu facility, which describes itself as “luxury” and aims to make residents “feel like they are staying in a high-end boutique hotel.”
Despite the conflicting reports about the reason for his treatment, Sean appears focused on self-improvement. “I am dealing with the pain so I can be a more self-confident man,” he told The Mirror.
He expressed hope that his time in rehab will help him “thrive as a better person.”
