Prince William called a royal fan “cheeky” in a hilarious interaction.

Princess Kate praised Prince William as “amazing” during their first joint engagement in Wales for more than a year.

Kate, 43, made the sweet comment whilst greeting crowds at Pontypridd Market on Wednesday ahead of St David’s Day.

The royal couple visited the market to meet local business owners and try their hand at making Welsh cakes.

It marked their first visit to Wales since Kate announced last March she had begun cancer treatment, following King Charles’ diagnosis.

Speaking to an elderly gentleman in the crowd, Kate said of William: “He’s been amazing.”

She added: “We’ve felt the support from everyone, so it’s meant a lot.”

Kate announced last month that she was in “remission” following her cancer battle.

William, 42, who previously described the past year as “the hardest in my life”, appeared in good spirits during the visit.

The Prince was overheard telling one royal fan that he’s “still as cheeky as ever”, reflecting on their paths crossing “a few years ago”.

During their market visit, the royal couple donned aprons at The Welsh Cake Shop, which has served the community for over 25 years.

William joked about his “stunning bakery skills” while rolling dough, quipping: “Mary Berry taught me everything I need to know.”

The Prince later carried a tray of their freshly made Welsh cakes to distribute to well-wishers.

Shop owner Theresa Conner was impressed, saying: “They were surprisingly very good and both good bakers.”

She added: “It’s a real privilege they came to visit us. It’s massive.”

Palace staff purchased 90 Welsh cakes to take away for lunch.

Following their market visit, William and Kate toured Meadow Street Community Garden and Woodland.

The community space was established in 2021 to create a welcoming area for locals to enjoy nature.

Kate promised to send her plum jam recipe to young gardeners after hearing they were growing their own plums.

She also revealed she is learning to forage in Norfolk with her children, who were fascinated by a “huge” puffball mushroom she had found.
