A south Belfast kebab shop was named the best in NI at the 13th annual British Kebab Awards.

In January it was confirmed that 10 NI eateries were in the running to become the top kebab house in the country.

Kebab fans across the UK voted for their favourite takeaway or restaurant in regional categories including Scotland, Wales, London and Northern Ireland.

The Kebab Company, based on Sunnyside Street, was crowned the best kebab house in NI.

The eatery was opened last summer by Ballyclare man Brian Craig.

Brian moved back home from Australia to start a family with his partner and decided to open the shop.

Since it’s opening it has been decided as ‘a local legend’.

The awards, founded by Ibrahim Dogus – a prominent figure in the British business community, were held in London on Wednesday night at the Park Plaza Hotel.

In partnership with JUST EAT, the awards showcase the diverse offerings that have made a significant impact on the UK’s culinary landscape.

Mr Dogus said: “London may dominate the finalists, but Liverpool, Glasgow and Belfast are all punching above their weight and showing the strength in depth across the country’s kebab houses.

“This year’s nominees represent everything that makes the British kebab industry special – diversity, quality, tradition, and innovation, and we’re proud to be highlighting the leaders in this great industry.”

Ormeau Road-based The Original Istanbul was named Best Kebab House in Northern Ireland last year.
