Actor Chris O’Dowd has made a light-hearted revelation about the first time he met his TV presenter wife, admitting ‘she’s not the first woman to turn me down’.
Sharing insights on the Spooning with Mark Wogan podcast, the Boyle-born actor gave a seldom-recounted glimpse into the beginning of his relationship with Dawn O’Porter during a journey across the pond.
Discussing the moment Dawn turned down his early invitation to go bowling, Chris remarked with a chuckle: “She’s not the first woman to turn me down and she won’t be the last.”

Recounting that while in Los Angeles, he reached out to his good mate and actor Nick Frost for company suggestions, it was Nick who urged him to connect with Dawn, reports Dublin Live.
Chris humorously suggested that his first bid to get acquainted with Dawn might have been thwarted by his unconventional Facebook presence. As he put it: “I friend requested her on Facebook, but my Facebook avatar is an old Floridian woman and has been forever. So, she kept turning down the request because she just had no idea who I was.”
Despite some initial mix-ups before their first meeting, the couple eventually said their vows in 2012. Three years later, Dawn gave birth to their first child, Art. In 2017, they welcomed their second child, Valentine.
Aside from his family life with Dawn, Chris has carved out a highly successful acting career over the years.
His most beloved role is arguably in Channel 4’s sitcom, The IT Crowd, where he starred as an IT technician alongside Richard Ayoade. He has also appeared in the popular Sky show, Moone Boy, that he both co-wrote and starred in back in 2012.
His acting roles haven’t been just limited to the screen, after he also earned recognition for playing Lennie in the hugely popular Of Mice and Men on Broadway in 2014. His performance of the character even earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play.
His latest project, Small Town, Big Story, which he co-directed with Catherine Morshead, Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman, premieres today (Thursday, February 27) on Sky.
