87% of us are obsessed with looking up stats and facts about films and actors while we watch them. Research byThreereveals that we are a nation of ‘Movie Miners.’ Over a third of Gen Z are spending more time scrolling for film facts than they do actually watching, and over half of us reach for our phones to search for movie trivia within 20 minutes of pressing play.

The revelation comes as movie-watching peaks ahead of the Oscars this Sunday, with a quarter of Brits planning to watch all the nominated films, and nearly half saying they’ll be tuning in to the ceremony.

Three, who offer access to movies on Paramount+, shows that the nation is captivated by big-screen stars, with nearly a third admitting they never watch a film without looking up the actors online.

When movie-mining, Brits are most likely to search for:

  • Actors’ filmographies (61%)

  • The real ages of actors (43%)

  • If a movie is based on a true story or not (40%)

  • Where the movie was shot (37%)

  • Who the actors are in relationships with (29%)

  • Who made the film’s soundtrack (26%)
