An alert citizen helped York Regional Police nab two men in connection with an attempted auto theft in Vaughan.
On Monday around 5 a.m., police were called to a theft in progress in the area of Major Mackenzie Dr. W. and Barons St., near Hwy. 427, after a “complainant called police after observing two suspects trying to gain access to a vehicle in the area.”
As officers arrived, police say the suspects attempted to flee in their vehicle, but lost control and ended up in a snowbank.
After a short foot pursuit, both suspects were taken into custody.
Aydean Ranjbari, 30, of Markham and Simon Jolivet, 26, of Quebec, are charged with attempted theft of motor vehicle, disguise with intent, possession of break-in instrument, and possession of automobile master key.
Jolivet also faces charges of dangerous operation and flight from police.
