Following their visit to Darjeeling Express, which was opened in Soho in 2017 by Indian-born British restauranteur Asma Khan, His Majesty was scheduled to join a discussion with members of the British Syrian community at Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, also located in Kingly Court.
The restaurant, which is now based in London’s Kingly Court and is run by an all-female team, pays homage to Asma’s Mughlai ancestry and to Calcutta, where she grew up.
During Ramadan, Asma donates the restaurant’s entire proceeds to charity and sends food packages to hospitals as part of the Zakat al Fitr, an obligatory charitable donation before the end of Ramadan.
At Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, King Charles was set to meet with a group of British Syrians active in their community, including filmmakers, doctors, and charity workers, reflecting Syria’s religious diversity.
