Married at First Sight Australia has returned with a new series, introducing an unexpected twist.

The well-liked reality TV show began in January on Channel 9, featuring a new group of single individuals hoping to find their ideal partner. The couples, who meet for the first time at the altar, receive guidance from sexologist Alessandra Rampolla and relationship experts John Aiken and Mel Schilling.

However, the 12th season of MAFS Australia presents an international MAFS first – the introduction of the Final Test Week. This twist, teased by the show’s producers, is expected to create turmoil for the couples.

During the Final Test Week, couples are given the chance to switch partners, a first for the show.

More details about the twist have been hinted at by MAFS producers, describing it as “an international MAFS first, where the participants will be confronted with the age-old question, ‘is the grass greener on the other side?'”.

MAFS producer Alexandra Spurway commented: “There is a choice that the individual has to make, and it’s make or break for their relationship. So it tests our couples in a way that makes them think about whether or not they’re going to make it work or yeah on the outside.”, reports OK!.

Meanwhile, fellow MAFS producer Josh Walsh hinted: “It has a big impact on at least one or more couples.”

The upcoming season of Married At First Sight Australia is set to feature some significant firsts for the series. This includes the show’s oldest ever bride, 57 year old mum-of-two Morena Farina, who will be one of this year’s participants.
