ITV has released exclusive pictures of the eagerly awaited thriller Malpractice, which is set to make a comeback on our screens this year.

Following a successful first run, the anthology series by Grace Ofori-Attah will see the return of Helen Behan and Jordan Kouamé as Dr. Norma Callahan and Dr. George Adjei from the Medical Investigation Unit (MIU), diving into another case of a doctor facing malpractice accusations.

In addition to this, the upcoming season will also welcome fresh talent, including the likes of actors Tom Hughes, Selin Hizli, and Zoë Telford, alongside Hannah McClean and Seraphina Beh among others.

Tom shared his excitement about joining the cast: “I couldn’t be more delighted to be playing James and helping bring to life Grace’s pertinent and important piece, which stopped me in my tracks when I read it. I hope the audience, when they see it, are equally as gripped and engaged by it, as I was.”

In this new instalment, Dr. James Ford (played by Tom Hughes), an on-call psychiatric registrar, faces a challenging predicament. He must balance a postnatal check-up for a worried new mother with the critical task of sectioning a psychotic patient.

However, the tragic consequences that follow trigger a series of unforeseen events, reports the Mirror.

Norma Callahan and George Adjei from the Medical Investigation Unit (MIU) are brought in to scrutinise Dr. Ford’s actions. Despite his personal life being in chaos and his colleagues viewing him as arrogant, he appears genuinely committed to his vulnerable patients.

However, as the investigation deepens, it becomes evident that what initially seemed like a series of poor decisions by one doctor could have far-reaching implications within a hospital seemingly in turmoil. As the investigation escalates, Dr. Ford is faced with the task of salvaging his already shaky career from what appear to be undeniable errors.

Concurrently, the MIU must unearth the truth, despite facing significant opposition from various quarters. ITV’s Director of Drama, Polly Hill, has recommissioned Malpractice for a second series.

The series is produced by the acclaimed World Productions, a part of ITV Studios. Series Two will also feature Simon Heath (executive producer of Line of Duty), Roderick Seligman, and Emma Luffingham.

Upon its initial release, the medical drama seemed to resonate with viewers and became the most watched launch episode of a new drama on ITV1 in 2023 with 6.7m viewers based on a 28-day viewing period. Furthermore, it was also sold to over 70 countries.

Malpractice returns to ITV in Spring 2025.
