Actress Michelle Trachtenberg has died at the age of 39.

The American actress, best known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, was found dead in a New York City apartment on Wednesday.


Trachtenberg was reportedly discovered at One Columbus Place, a 51-storey luxury apartment complex on Central Park South at around 8am on Wednesday morning.

Police sources told The New York Post that her death is not being investigated as suspicious. No cause of death has yet been confirmed.

Born in New York on 11 October 1985, Trachtenberg began her acting career at just three years old, appearing in commercials.

She first gained recognition on Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete before landing her breakthrough role as Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Trachtenberg joined the popular supernatural teen drama in its fifth season as the younger sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character.

She later found further success portraying the manipulative Manhattan socialite Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl, which ran from 2007 to 2012.

Her film credits included Eurotrip and Ice Princess, as well as starring in “Harriet the Spy” at age 10.

Trachtenberg’s character in Gossip Girl regularly feuded with Blake Lively’s Serena Van Der Woodsen and Leighton Meester’s Blair Waldorf.

Her last professional credits were as an executive producer and host of the true-crime docuseries Meet, Marry, Murder in 2021.

No statement has yet been released by her representatives regarding her death.
