Tim Tector became the third member of his family to win a full Ireland cap last night but his debut ended in frustration as the final T20 international against Zimbabwe was abandoned in Harare.

The 21-year-old did not get the chance to show the batting form that shone for Pembroke last season as rain brought an end to the game — giving Zimbabwe a 1-0 series win — after the home side had made 142-6 from 18 overs.

Tim’s brother Harry is already established as Ireland’s premier middle order batsman while 16-year-old Alice made her debut for the women’s team in 2024, leaving only Jack, the eldest of the siblings, without senior recognition.

All three boys have captained Ireland at the U-19 World Cup.

The Boys in Green will fly home with mixed feelings about their four weeks in Zimbabwe, having won an absorbing Test match but then suffering narrow defeats in both white-ball series, albeit that only one of the three T20s was completed.
