Millie Bobby Brown, the Stranger Things actress, famously may not be one to take pictures of her meals – but she certainly values a healthy diet.

The 21 year old actress has previously shared her love for nutritious foods like Greek salads, fruits, and the zesty Mexican egg dish huevos rancheros.

In an interview with GQ last year, Brown revealed her favourite drink: kombucha. She’s a big fan of this fermented beverage, known for its potential benefits to gut health.

She explained: “Kombucha is a probiotic drink with living organisms at the bottom of the drink. Your girl has gotten down with the flu quite a few times so this is really good for your gut.

“I drink one every single day. And when it’s kombucha time, that’s like wine o’clock for some people.”

Kombucha is made by fermenting black or green tea with specific bacteria, yeast, and sugar, often over a week or longer. The process also encourages the growth of lactic acid bacteria, which research suggests might serve a probiotic role, reports Surrey Live.

These probiotics are excellent for providing the gut with beneficial bacteria, potentially enhancing digestion, reducing inflammation, and even supporting weight loss.

As well as this, research has indicated that kombucha can inhibit the growth and spread of cancer cells, a phenomenon experts attribute to its high antioxidant and tea polyphenol content.

These polyphenols are thought to prevent gene mutation and cancer cell growth, although the exact mechanism remains unclear.

Kombucha is safe to drink in moderation, but because it’s carbonated, drinking too much can lead to bloating. Additionally, some supermarket brands contain high sugar levels, which isn’t ideal for your stomach or overall health.

A wide range of kombucha varieties are available on the Holland and Barrett website, with Asda and Tesco also offering this gut-friendly drink.
