Specific branch locations set to be shut by Lloyds Banking Group next month have now been disclosed. These closures will affect Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches, all under the umbrella of the banking giant.
The latest closures are part of the ongoing shift towards digital operations, potentially leaving older customers concerned about their options. Among those affected is a Lloyds in Newquay, along with another in Presteigne.
According to The Sun, 13 Lloyds Bank branches will be closing their doors between March 3 and March 31, including other locations in Surbiton, Bletchley and Rugeley. Birmingham Live reports that Halifax branches in Portsmouth, Burgess Hill and Camberley will also shut between March 4 and March 27.
Only one Bank of Scotland branch is set to close in Montrose, Scotland on March 10. This comes after the banking giant announced plans for closer integration between its brands, allowing customers to access services at any of the three banks.
In other words, Halifax customers could in future use a Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, and vice versa. The Express reports that branch transactions have dropped by an average of 48% over the past five years as more customers opt for app-based payments.
In a previous statement, a Lloyds spokesperson said: “Over 20 million customers are using our apps for on-demand access to their money and customers have more choice and flexibility than ever for their day-to-day banking.
“Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches. Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a Banking Hub.”
Since June 2022, Lloyds Banking Group has shut 537 branches across its three brands, with another 203 closures planned by 2026. By then, Lloyds will have just 386 branches, Bank of Scotland 90, and Halifax 281.
