Dr Amir Khan has revealed his favourite ginger shot recipe, aimed at warding off the seasonal sniffles and bolstering the immune system against coughs and colds. Despite the improving weather, many are still battling ailments, prompting the well-known TV doctor to share his personal remedy for keeping illness at bay.

Back in October, with flu season looming, Dr Amir initially shared his ginger shot recipe, offering a homemade alternative to store-bought versions. He said: “I am posting this recipe again because I have seen so many coughs, colds, viruses, particularly in children, and adults, to be fair, today. And lots of shops are selling these ginger shots, but you can just make them at home yourself with these simple ingredients.”

He also suggested a practical tip for those who want to prepare in bulk: “And you can make en masse, put them in ice cube trays and just defrost them as you need each shot every morning, I would say. They are strong though, beware.”

Dr Amir then delved into the widespread appeal of ginger shots and highlighted the health advantages of the components used in his recipe, noting the numerous benefits of ginger itself. Ginger is a powerhouse of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, and it may also alleviate nausea, arthritis, and pain. Its digestive benefits can also help to minimise bloating, reports Surrey Live.

Incorporating lemons introduces soluble fibre, pectin, which serves as a prebiotic to nourish gut bacteria. These fruits are also abundant in flavonoids that combat inflammation, along with high levels of vitamin C, crucial for maintaining the gut lining.

Dr Amir also incorporates turmeric, apples, and honey into his recipe. He shared: “Lemon juice brings the vitamin C, honey is soothing and pepper and turmeric help with inflammation too. I add apple for flavour and fibre and extra plant benefits.”

He emphasised: “Remember the best thing for good immune health is a well balanced diet, good quality sleep and regular exercise.”

A plus point of Dr Amir’s concoction is its lack of added sugar or additives, which some commercially available ginger shots might contain. However, he does caution certain individuals who might not be able to consume the ginger shot.

He clarified: “Do not take lots of ginger if you are on blood thinners, mind there is a small increased risk of bleeding so speak to your own doctor first – it’s very rare and probably requires lots of ginger but worth noting.”
