An Indian restaurant in Bristol has won big at the Nation’s Curry Awards. Indian Kitchen in Westbury-on-Trym has won the title of Curry Kitchen of the Year at the third national awards, beating nine other restaurants across the country.

The annual awards, which took place this month, aim to highlight and recognise the successes in the industry here in the UK, with the Asian catering industry valued to be at around £5billion. The awards were launched in order to promote the businesses and highlight the creativity of the industry’s talented chefs.

Suresh Sharma, chef and owner of Indian Kitchen, has a background working in five star hotels and now runs this local business with his family. He told BristolLive: “It was a surprise to hear we had won. I heard we had been shortlisted by my builder who came in and said we were nominees for this.

“And then the Awards tagged us in a post and we received an email to say we’d won. I feel so happy, and that my hard work has paid off. It’s amazing, and the fact that my wife is also owner and my kids help too . We’re very happy.”

Indian Kitchen specialises in fast food and Indian cuisine with a menu that boasts ‘great food at affordable prices’. It offers takeaway and delivery options, as well as the option to book a table and eat in.

Head chef Mr Sharma says: “Cooking to me is genuinely everything. From starting off as a young chef in Delhi at the Taj Palace Hotel, this profession has allowed me to support my family over the years by serving authentic flavour-filled food.

“A decade of experience and training later, I utilised my knowledge and skills as a head chef in many restaurants across England – Southall, Luton, Cambridge, Weston-super-Mare, Bristol, Bedford and Swindon. The customer satisfaction I have seen in these places is what I hope and work towards seeing here in this kitchen.”
