An ongoing police operation to crackdown on groups who steal and then joyride stolen motorbikes around Bristol netted a series of arrests in two dramatic chases yesterday (Monday).

The first successful arrests were made in a police operation which brought traffic gridlock to the Cumberland Road, Portway and the A4 into Bristol city centre just before 4pm on Monday, February 24.

Eyewitnesses told Bristol Live that police managed to stop two motorcycles being ridden on Hotwell Road, after a brief pursuit from the city centre.

The main A4 was closed in both directions while police made the arrests and waited for reinforcements, but the bikes were recovered and the road soon reopened after around 20 minutes.

The two young men, who have not been named, were arrested on suspicion of theft and public order offences, and police said the investigation is ongoing.
