A popular food item that costs less than 7p per serving at Aldi has been listed as one of the top 15 healthy foods to eat by medical experts. An article from the University of California, Davis, explains that we are often told of new “superfoods” to consume.
In a bid to clarify which foods are actually the most beneficial, the publication goes on to share its top 15, as chosen by experts. Eating plenty of fish is the article’s first recommendation, as these are often high in “healthy omega 3 fatty acids”.
It goes on to also recommend consuming broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables, as these help the body to detox, and beetroot due to its “protective carotenoids”. Spinach and other leafy greens, and kale also make the list.
In at number six is an item found in many kitchen cupboards, and it can be purchased for £1.49 at Aldi, or around 6.6p per serving – peanut butter. Clinical professor Brian Davis said it is a “great recovery food” due to its protein, carbs and naturally-occurring sugars.
However, you should make sure the peanut butter you consume is 100% peanuts, as other types have additives such as extra sugar and palm oil.
Eating what’s known as a Mediterranean diet is also highly recommended by the experts. This means lots of lean meats and lots of vegetables, with general psychiatry professor and chief wellness officer at UC Davis Health hailing this way of eating.
Almonds, mangos, blueberries, chocolate, quinoa, legumes, pickled vegetables, and chocolate milk also feature on the list. You can read the article in full here
