Tesco has confirmed that it has discontinued a £1.95 breakfast staple from all its stores. The supermarket chain said it was no longer stocking the item as it responded to concerns raised online by shoppers.

One shopper asked the supermarket firm about the disappearance of the Apricot Wheats cereal from their local store. They were also concerned about the unavailability of the Kellogg’s version of the whole grain wheat squares.

Putting questions to Tesco on X, formerly Twitter, the shopper asked if the product had been taken off shelves. They said: “For several weeks now you’ve had the other varieties but no Apricot wheats.. First you took away the Honey Monster Puffs, and now this. This is at the Baldock superstore.”

Tesco then confirmed the cereal has indeed been discontinued. A spokesperson said in response: “Hi there, the tesco apricot wheats cereal has been discontinued and is no longer ranged in any of our stores.

“I am so sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Thanks, Amena – Customer Care.” They followed-up by asking about the availability of the Kellogg’s product, pointing out they were still stocked by Sainsbury’s. Responding, Tesco said it would look into the availability of the products and suggest the shopper contact their local store.

However, the Kellogg’s Apricot version of the breakfast product is not listed as available on the supermarket’s website. It is however available online at Sainsbury’s, Asda and Ocado, with prices between £1.95 and £2.45 for a 500g box of the cereal.

Tesco has since confirmed it is no longer stocking the product. Shoppers have despaired over the discontinuation of the Tesco branded product.

Reviewers online said it was “superior” to the Kellogg’s version. One shopper said: “I bought these as I couldn’t get Tesco’s own. There was no comparison – Tesco’s had a lovely filling which was sadly lacking in these. Won’t buy again.”
