A cleaning expert has revealed a top tip for ensuring her mirrors are left without any streaks. Known by her TikTok handle, @mama_mila_, Chantel Mila swears by an everyday item that works wonders: shaving foam.

In a January video, she shared that a small application of shaving foam buffed onto “hazy mirrors” not only makes them gleam but also eliminates pesky fingerprints. Chantel once again utilized this handy trick in a later video from September 2024 when tackling her bathroom mirror.

She highlighted how shaving foam doesn’t just clean mirrors to a streak-free shine; it additionally helps keep the mirror from misting up after hot showers. For an even better result, she suggests turning off the lights before you start cleaning: “Always turn lights off before cleaning mirrors for a streak-free finish.”

Post-application, all one needs is a dry cloth to buff the mirror into an impeccable state. However, Victorian Plumbing offers a word of caution about using too much shaving foam—it can leave streaks on the glass, rather than the intended spotless outcome, reports the Express.

The success behind shaving foam’s cleaning prowess lies in its surfactant content. Surfactants greatly aid in dissolving dirt and grease, allowing a more uniform spread of cleaning agents on the glass and thereby preventing any streaky aftermath when wiped clean.

The substance serves as a slick agent, ensuring the cleaning cloth moves effortlessly across the mirror, leaving it spotless. Ottilie Blackhall, contributing to Homes & Gardens, shared her successful experience: “Ta da! From start to finish, this process took eight minutes – which is reason enough to give it a go.”

She further noted the results compared to other methods: “Asides from that, unlike when I tried cleaning my shower glass with a potato, my mirror generally looked incredibly good, without any water marks, stains, lint or streaks, so I will definitely be making it a regular part of my 15-minute bathroom cleaning and organizing routine. It’s a perfect method for anyone trying to clean a bathroom in 30 minutes or less.”
