Police have confirmed they have recovered a body following reports of a sudden death close to the Giant’s Causeway.

HM Coastguard were first called to the scene on the north coast shortly after 2pm on Saturday afternoon, with the PSNI confirming on Sunday that a body had been recovered.

“Police, together with colleagues from His Majesty’s Coastguard, have recovered a body in the Causeway Road area of Bushmills today, Sunday February 23,” said a spokesperson.

“A post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death and we are working to identify the deceased. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.”

The NI Ambulance Service also confirmed it received a call to the incident just before 5pm on Saturday.

“The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 4.57pm on Saturday, February 22 following reports of an incident at the Giant’s Causeway,” said a spokesperson.

“NIAS despatched a rapid response paramedic to the incident.

“No patients were taken from the scene.”
