Amanda Holden has issued a plea to David Walliams about his comedy comeback with his Little Britain co-star Matt Lucas.
As part of her reunion with her former Britain’s Got Talent colleague and comedian Matt, Amanda and her Heart Radio co-star Jamie Theakston quizzed the pair on their upcoming ventures.
David, 53, expressed their focus on creating multi-character shows, saying: “We’re just working on a few different shows which play to our strength, multi-character shows, and so we want to make people laugh because we need comedy more than ever!
“Everyone says that, don’t they? As if it is World War II or something like that!”.
Amanda, 54, chimed in, emphasising the importance of edgy comedy: “Well, I was going to say, we do need comedy and we do need edgy comedy.
“Because comedy isn’t funny unless you are making people think, or you are on the edge, so tell me it isn’t going to be woke?”.
In response, David confidently stated: “I think it is impossible for me to be woke. Absolutely impossible.”
The comedian went on to suggest that people are tired of things being woke, to which Amanda responded, “I hope they are.”
David and Matt gained fame through their sitcom Little Britain, which aired from 2003 to 2006.

In recent years, the show has been slammed by Ofcom audience research as “explicitly racist and outdated” due to some of its topics and language.
In 2020, the duo apologised for using blackface in the show, which has since had some scenes removed and a content warning added.
In a previous admission, Matt revealed that he and David are planning to revive their hit show with a brand new format.
Speaking to The Sun in 2023, he said: “The show will be different in many ways.
“We are talking about how we can have diverse talent on screen and in the writers’ room and conceive it as something which is just not about me and David playing absolutely everyone.
“That is something we should have done but didn’t do back then”.
Meanwhile, David’s return to comedy comes after he was dropped from Britain’s Got Talent in 2022 due to alleged “disrespectful comments” about participants.
In November 2023, it was reported that Walliams and the show’s producers had come to an “amicable resolution” following his apparent intention to take legal action against the programme.
Walliams, who served as a judge on the ITV show for a decade with Amanda, Simon Cowell, and Alesha Dixon, has been succeeded by Bruno Tonioli.
Britain’s Got Talent airs tonight at 7pm on ITV and ITVX.
Listen to Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden weekdays from 06:30 – 10:00 across the UK and on Global Player.
