Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden was recently recognised by King Charles at a Buckingham Palace ceremony, and she shared her experience – including an amusing mishap – on ITV’s Lorraine.

The professional dancer from Wales was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her relentless efforts to fundraise and increase awareness for inflammatory bowel disease.

Amy, who was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 19, had a heartfelt conversation with ITV host Christine Lampard, who is filling in for Lorraine Kelly. She revealed that her own struggle with the illness, and the lack of public figures to look up to that were dealing with the same condition, motivated her to advocate for many charities.

Following her meeting with King Charles, Amy joined friends and family outside the famous palace for photographs, looking radiant in a beautiful silk purple dress and matching hat.

However, a humorous incident occurred when her Strictly co-star Carlos Gu snapped a photo of her holding up her medal, which promptly fell out of its box and onto the ground. The moment was captured by her good friend and Strictly co-star Carlos and shared with his 73k Instagram followers, reports Wales Online.

Reflecting on the day with Christine, Amy couldn’t help but laugh as she remembered the embarrassing incident. Christine teased her, saying: “Carlos said on his Instagram that hopefully you’ll bring your medal out on tour with you, however we’re being led to believe that you can’t be trusted.”

As the photograph flashed up on the screen, showing Amy holding an empty box with a puzzled expression, the host couldn’t resist teasing her. “Can you please explain this photograph to us?” she prompted, as the room erupted into amused murmurs.

Despite her blushing cheeks, the BBC One celebrity managed a cheerful response: “So Carlos took that he was like ‘show me the medal’ I opened the box and it fell out and as you can see by my face I was like ‘ohhh my medal’.”

Amy, still clearly mortified by the memory, reassured everyone: “Yes very embarrassed,” but quickly followed up with a smile: “It’s safe, it’s in the box.”

The light-hearted moment tickled Christine, who was unable to hold back her own laughter, she commented: “Of course he was there to capture the moment Amy.”

With the humour of the situation, Amy countered: “Of course, and of course he posted it and shared it on social media.” Enjoying the banter, Christine added with a twinkle in her eye: “Of course he did, that’s what friends are for.”

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1, from 9am.
