Hundreds of jobs will be up for grabs on one day at a special event for young people in South Bristol next week. It will be the ninth year running that local MP Karin Smyth has organised a South Bristol Jobs Fair, bringing together more than 35 different employers, who have vacancies for hundreds of people to fill.
The Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair is being held at the South Bristol Skills Academy campus in Hengrove, and is a collaboration between the City of Bristol College, Bristol City Council and the DWP. It will take place at the Whitchurch Lane campus on Thursday, February 27 – all day and is free with no need to book.
“One of my key concerns since becoming the MP for Bristol South has been helping young people in this constituency to find good jobs and develop their careers,” said Mrs Smyth. “That’s why I organised the first South Bristol Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair in 2017. The government I am part of is committed to this goal too.
“We are working to fulfil our manifesto pledge to guarantee training, an apprenticeship or help to find work for all 18- to 21-year-olds,” she added.
“The Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair is about getting young people thinking about their future and allows them to have a conversation with representatives from one of the many employers and support organisations who attend,” she said. “This event is a collaborative effort. I’m grateful for everyone who is helping to make the fair happen.”
The principal of the City of Bristol College is Julia Gray. She said the event was about connecting young people with the people providing apprenticeships and jobs. “It’s a great pleasure to be able to host the South Bristol Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair at our South Bristol Skills Academy campus,” she said.

“We’re extremely ambitious for our students and events like this one can help learners from across the city find out more about their potential career options directly from local employers,” she added.
“The college’s strapline is “Where Next?” We feel it’s crucially important to challenge our students to think about where they want to go with their careers and it’s our job to provide a nurturing environment to support them to get there. Events like this one can make a vital difference in helping learners to define their future direction and we couldn’t be happier to provide our continued support,” she said.
