Mohamed Salah has set a new Liverpool record for away goals in a Premier League season, netting his 15th on the road against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The Egyptian forward surpassed Luis Suarez’s previous mark of 14 away goals set during the 2013-14 campaign.

Salah’s record-breaking strike came in the 29th minute after Villa full-back Andres Garcia’s loose pass was intercepted by Diogo Jota.

The Portuguese striker ran through on goal before squaring the ball to an unmarked Salah, who fired home into an empty net to break the deadlock.

The Liverpool forward’s goal contribution tally for the season now stands at an impressive 38, with 24 goals and 14 assists in 26 matches.

This surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo’s previous Premier League record of 37 goal contributions, which the Portuguese star achieved in the 2007-08 season with Manchester United.

Salah, who leads both the goals and assists charts in the Premier League this term, has reached this milestone in considerably fewer games.

The 32-year-old is now on course to challenge Thierry Henry’s all-time record of 44 goal involvements in a single Premier League season, set in 2002-03.

Villa quickly responded to Salah’s opener, with Youri Tielemans volleying in from close range in the 38th minute to level the scores.

A victory for Liverpool at Villa Park would see them move 10 points clear of Arsenal, ahead of the Gunners’ weekend fixture against West Ham United.

The match holds additional significance for Liverpool with a crucial clash against Manchester City looming on Sunday.

Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain, with his current contract set to expire at the end of this season.

Manager Arne Slot addressed the situation last month, expressing his desire to retain the Egyptian star’s services.

“Everybody wants him, including us,” Slot said in January.

“We want him to extend of course as well — that is clear. I’m not surprised that Saudi want him.”

“But I wouldn’t be surprised if other countries want him as well.

“He’s old enough and wise enough, and has done so many smart things in his career, that he will make the right decision for himself and, hopefully, for us as well.”
