TV presenter Storm Huntley has spoken openly about her experience with gestational diabetes. Appearing on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show, she discussed the condition in light of recent newspaper studies.
Storm, 37, who is expecting her second child, revealed that she suffers from gestational diabetes, a diagnosis she first received during her pregnancy in 2022. This condition causes women to become diabetic during their pregnancy.
Elaborating on the condition, Storm explained: “There are quite a lot of symptoms that you get in pregnancy that overlap [with gestational diabetes] essentially. Sometimes it can be hard to diagnose.
“My gestational diabetes wasn’t diagnosed until much later in my pregnancy with my first [child]. Because I’ve had it before, this time they were really hot off the press to test me for it,” added Storm.

Discussing the impact of gestational diabetes, she said: “I have been dealing with it since very early on, which means my baby hasn’t grown too big.
“But the symptoms, the reason it is so serious is because you can develop things like pre-eclampsia, which is high blood pressure in pregnancy, and your baby tends to get much bigger, much quicker.”
She further mentioned that those diagnosed with the condition need to be a “little bit more careful” about their sugar intake, as do their children, reports the Daily Record.

Storm and her husband Kerr Okan, who is the frontman of The LaFontaines, welcomed their first child, a son named Otis, in July 2022. In September 2024, she shared the news that they were expecting their second child, later revealing it’s a baby girl.
The couple got engaged in October 2020 and exchanged vows in Scotland in September 2021.
Storm, who hosts her own show on Channel 5, is set to go on maternity leave on 10 March. Channel 5 has not yet announced who will be stepping in during her absence.
Jeremy Vine airs Monday – Friday from 9.15am on Channel 5.
