A missing dog and his heartbroken owner found their way back to one another — in a reunion that is being described as “fate.”

Cheyenne Campbell, who works at 2nd Chance Shelter in Boaz, Ala., was working a regular shift when a dog called Emma that had just been dropped off started exhibiting unusual behaviour.

“A lady had found her a few months ago and tried to find her family to no avail,” the shelter wrote in a Facebook post, detailing how “inside dog” Emma was let outside of her home to do her business but then disappeared.

“Her family looked for her and couldn’t find her. This was five months ago. They thought someone had picked her up. They thought they would never see her again.”

Jenny Harris, an assistant manager at the shelter told the Centre Daily Times that Cheyenne “had gone door to door, checking all the sites and called around trying to find” Emma for months.

That all changed on Feb. 7 when Emma was brought to their shelter and “was very nervous” — until staff member Cheyenne walked into the office.

“Emma was behind the counter and when Cheyenne started talking, Emma went crazy wagging her tail and jumping. Can you believe it? It was Cheyenne’s dog that had went missing five months ago,” the shelter shared.

“The Good Samaritan that brought Emma to the shelter lives about 10 miles away from Emma’s home,” the post continued.

“Emma ran straight to her, and she picked her up and just started licking her all in the face,” Harris recalled to the Daily Times.

“Cheyenne started crying, which made us all teary. And we couldn’t believe it. We were very excited because you could see how much she loved her mama,” the assistant manager added.

The shelter called it destiny.

“We are all so happy that she was found and nothing bad had happened to her before she was rescued and reunited with her family,” 2nd Chance wrote.

“It was surely fate that brought Emma to the shelter where her mama works.”
