Multiple people at Costco in Avonmouth have been sprayed with what is though to be a homemade chilli spray. A teenage boy was detained by members of the public following the incident tonight.
Emergency services were called to the wholesale store just after 6.30pm today (Monday, February 17) where a teenage boy allegedly sprayed people with an unknown liquid. Police officers, fire crews and the ambulance service all attended the store.
Ten people, including the boy, complained of stinging or itchy eyes and skin, Avon and Somerset Police said. Staff members provided first aid until the ambulance service arrived. The liquid is though to be a homemade chilli spray which contains no strong acid or alkaline ingredients.
A minor was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and administering a noxious substance, and remains in police custody. Police left the scene by around 9pm.
Avon and Somerset Police are now appealing for information which could help the investigation. If you saw what happened, or have video footage, please call 101 and give the reference 5225042707.
